Meta is testing a new feature in Threads that could make switching platforms easier than ever. The tool lets users follow many of the same creators they already follow on X (formerly Twitter), helping them reconnect with familiar voices as they settle into Threads.
This beta feature was first spotted by security researcher and former Meta employee Jane Manchun Wong, and it has now been confirmed by Meta. A pop-up message inside the Threads app invites users to “Find popular creators from X,” guiding them through the process of downloading their following list from X and uploading it to Threads.

Although Meta hasn’t explained exactly how it matches profiles between the two platforms, the feature is focused on helping users discover “popular creators” they already follow elsewhere. It might not work for every account, but it’s a step toward rebuilding social circles that were left behind during the shift from X to newer platforms.
Over the past few years, many creators have left X for alternatives like Threads and Bluesky. But in doing so, they’ve often had to start over, losing their large followings and strong communities. This new feature aims to solve that issue by allowing users to bring their network with them.
Meta confirmed that the feature is still in testing and hasn’t announced when it might be rolled out more broadly. Still, it marks a strategic move to make Threads more appealing to creators and audiences who are looking for a fresh start while staying connected to the people they care about.
Threads has seen consistent growth in recent months. In January, Meta reported that the platform had reached over 320 million monthly active users, up from 300 million in December. These numbers put Threads in close range of X in terms of user base, and new tools like this one may help accelerate that momentum.
As the battle between social platforms continues, this feature could give Threads a competitive edge by easing one of the most frustrating parts of switching — losing your community.
