Apple is working on a groundbreaking wearable that could change the way users interact with smartwatches. The tech giant recently submitted a patent to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office detailing a foldable Apple Watch concept featuring a dual-display system and built-in cameras.
The proposed design aims to enhance usability by allowing the device to transform based on user needs. According to the filing, the screen could fold for a compact look or extend when a larger display is necessary. This adaptability would make the watch more functional, especially for tasks like video calls, gaming, and web browsing.
Illustrations included in the patent reveal different approaches to the foldable mechanism. One sketch shows a hinged connection between the two screens, another depicts a secondary display flipping out from the main screen, and a third concept suggests an adjustable panel system.
Apple also envisions integrating cameras and sensors into the device, further expanding its capabilities. With built-in cameras, users could potentially take photos, make FaceTime calls, and use advanced augmented reality features directly from their wrists.

However, filing a patent doesn’t guarantee that the concept will become a reality. Apple submits numerous patents each year, and many ideas never reach production. Additionally, speculation suggests that Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone, expected around 2026, could take precedence over this watch innovation.
