Meta is gearing up to launch a new and upgraded version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, offering advanced features like a built-in screen and hand gesture controls. The upcoming model, codenamed Hypernova, is expected to hit the market by the end of this year, with a price tag ranging from $1,000 to $1,400, according to Bloomberg. This is a significant jump compared to the current Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which start at $299.

The Hypernova will feature a display located in the lower-right corner of the right lens, designed to be viewed while looking downward. It will allow users to run apps, view photos, and interact through hand gestures and capacitive touch on the sides of the frame. When activated, the glasses will show a home screen with icons arranged horizontally, resembling the interface seen on Meta’s Quest headsets.
In addition to the built-in screen, the Hypernova will come with an upgraded camera and continued integration with AI chatbot features, building on the idea of having smart, conversational technology right in front of you.
Meta has reserved more advanced augmented reality features for its Orion glasses, which are still in development. In contrast, Hypernova will be aimed at the mid-tier market, competing with other smart glasses seen at tech shows like CES, such as Rokid Glasses, which display basic information like green text.
One key feature of the Hypernova is its compatibility with Meta’s new “neural” wristband controller, codenamed Ceres, which adds to the glasses’ interactivity. Looking ahead, Meta is also planning to release a Hypernova 2 model in 2027, which will include two screens for a more immersive experience.
