A beloved name in smartwatch history is making a comeback—well, sort of. Eric Migicovsky, the mastermind behind the original Pebble smartwatch, has unveiled two new devices that channel the essence of his pioneering creation. Meet the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2, a pair of smartwatches built for those who appreciate simplicity and nostalgia in wearable tech.
The Core 2 Duo, priced at $149, closely resembles the Pebble 2 in both design and function. It features an always-on e-paper display, physical buttons, and basic features like alarms and timers. Unlike modern touch-centric smartwatches, this device keeps things simple, offering notifications and music control via Bluetooth connectivity with your phone.

For those looking for a bit more functionality, the Core Time 2 will arrive later this year at $225. This model introduces a touchscreen—a modern addition Migicovsky believes enhances usability without overcomplicating the experience. Users can tap on complications for quick access to apps while still enjoying the classic button-based interface. Battery life is another highlight, with Migicovsky claiming the Core Time 2 can last an impressive 30 days on a single charge.
The journey to reviving Pebble’s spirit began when Google, which had acquired Fitbit (the company that absorbed Pebble in 2016), decided to open-source PebbleOS. This unexpected move allowed Migicovsky and his new company, Core Devices, to develop smartwatches that run the original Pebble operating system.
Recreating these devices has been smoother than expected, but challenges remain. iPhone compatibility is tricky, limiting features like replying to notifications, whereas Android offers better integration. Additionally, potential manufacturing delays and tariff costs could impact pricing.
Despite the hurdles, Migicovsky is excited to bring these watches to life, not to chase massive sales but to create something he truly enjoys. “The goal isn’t to sell millions of these,” he shares. “It’s about making a smartwatch that I actually want to wear.”
For fans of Pebble, the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 represent a rare opportunity to embrace a wearable that values longevity, customization, and a straightforward user experience over flashy, complex features.
