Sony has officially introduced the WF-C710N, the newest version of its budget-friendly noise-canceling wireless earbuds. Priced at $120, the latest model brings several refinements, along with a fresh lineup of colors, including black, white, pink, and a striking Glass Blue with a transparent finish. While some upgrades enhance the listening experience, one major design shift may spark debate among longtime users.

A key difference from its predecessor, the WF-C700N, is the removal of physical buttons in favor of touch controls. While this gives the earbuds a more streamlined look, some users may find it less intuitive than traditional tactile buttons. On the upside, Sony has introduced wear sensors that automatically pause and resume playback when the earbuds are removed or inserted—an addition missing from the previous model.
The core features remain largely unchanged, with 5mm dynamic drivers, active noise cancellation (ANC), and a transparency mode for ambient awareness. Sony’s DSEE audio upscaling technology continues to be an option for enhancing sound quality. The earbuds also maintain an IPX4 rating, ensuring protection against sweat and light splashes. Additionally, Bluetooth Multipoint allows seamless connectivity with two devices at once, making switching between gadgets more convenient.
Battery performance has improved, with ANC-enabled listening time extending to 8.5 hours per charge, compared to the previous 7.5 hours. Disabling ANC pushes that number up to 12 hours. However, the biggest boost comes from the charging case, which now offers a total of 30 hours of battery life—significantly more than the 20-hour capacity of its predecessor.
Sony also promises better noise cancellation, thanks to an improved dual-microphone system. Meanwhile, call quality gets a boost with AI-driven voice pickup technology, designed to filter out background noise more effectively. The system was developed using over 500 million voice samples, ensuring clearer conversations in busy environments.
Preorders for the WF-C710N are available now through Sony’s website and Amazon, with shipments beginning at the end of March. While the removal of physical buttons might take some getting used to, the improved battery life, wear sensors, and enhanced ANC could make these earbuds a compelling choice for budget-conscious audiophiles.
