WhatsApp is stepping up its game with a fresh batch of smart call features aimed at making communication smoother and more private for Android users. These additions are currently being rolled out in a beta version of the app, signaling what’s coming next in the messaging giant’s evolution.

One of the new tools being tested is a mute toggle for incoming voice calls. Instead of fumbling around after answering, users can now mute themselves directly from the call notification. Whether you’re in a loud place or just need a moment before speaking, this feature adds a bit more flexibility to how you handle calls.
Video calls are also getting a privacy-friendly update. A new option allows users to switch off their camera before even picking up the call. This gives users time to prepare or simply opt out of being on camera altogether ideal for moments when you need more control over how you appear on screen, especially when dealing with unknown callers.
Adding a splash of fun to conversations, WhatsApp is also bringing emoji reactions to live video calls. Participants will be able to share their feelings in real time using quick emoji responses, making group calls more expressive and interactive.
These updates are part of WhatsApp’s beta version 2.25.10.16 for Android and are currently accessible to a limited group of testers. A wider rollout is expected in the near future as feedback is collected and improvements are made.
